The OELCS Seminars presented in 2007 and archived here were sponsored by the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children in cooperation with the Office of Early Learning and School Readiness.

Goals

• Build participants' capacity (knowledge base/skills) around early childhood education.
• Develop participants' ability to support children's learning through intentional teaching guided by the early learning content standards.

Objectives

• Use Ohio Early Learning Content Standards as the organizing structure for seminar content.
• Make connections between competencies needed (standards) for Ohio's children and the knowledge, skill base and effective practices educators need to support children's emergent content understandings within quality early childhood programs.
• Utilize faculty from diverse Ohio institutions of higher education to provide consistent research-based information linking early childhood academic content standards with effective teaching strategies and practices.
• Provide a forum for sharing experiences and ideas for the integration of content area material across the curriculum in the early childhood classroom/center.
