Social Studies curriculum should be a journey focused on who we are, and who we connect with family and community. This module focuses on citizenship and government, social studies skills and methods, people and societies, history, geography, and economics. All experiences are designed for diverse learners.
Social studies is the study of who we are and how we connect with others. Economics is the study of the choices we make about resources. This module will explore economics as preschool-age children make choices about what they, and others, have, want and need. Educators will learn strategies to support all children’s growing understanding of economic concepts. Strong emphasis is placed on supporting children and their families from a) diverse ability levels, e.g. typically developing and those with identified special needs; and b) diverse backgrounds, e.g. cultural, family structures, socio-economic levels and urban/rural.
This module aims at providing teachers with concepts and strategies to prepare young children to be productive and contributing members of a democratic society.
